Experience
Gemey's substantial experience in financing projects (including hedging facilities) both within Australia and overseas has been developed over the past 18 years. She is very familiar with the complex issues which confront financiers.
Gemey constantly strives to exceed her clients' expectations by focusing on her clients' commercial objectives and is perceived by her clients as being proactive, innovative and responsive. Major projects and clients
Gemey's clients include Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited, N M Rothschild & Sons (Australia) Limited, the Bank of Western Australia and Commonwealth Bank of Australia. She has an excellent understanding of the issues involved in financing major resources projects in Australia and internationally.
Some examples of her recent domestic project financing transactions include acting for:
- ANZ—in funding the development costs of the East Kundana gold project in Western Australia for Rand Mining NL and Tribune Resources NL
- Rothschild and ABN AMRO—in funding the development costs of the Ravenswood nickel project located in Queensland for Resolute Mining Ltd, and
- CBA—in funding the development costs of the Forrestania nickel project in Western Australia for Western Areas NL.
Gemey's international work has developed her expertise in securing financing transactions on a multi-jurisdictional basis utilising (in appropriate circumstances) tax efficient structures. Recently she has acted for:
- ANZ—in funding the development costs of the Chinguetti oil project in Mauritania, West Africa for Hardman Mauritania Finance Pty Ltd
- Rothschild—in funding the development costs of the Goiás Velho gold project in Brazil for Sertão Mineração Ltda
- RMB International (Dublin) Ltd and RMB Resources Limited—in funding the development of the Dikulushi copper and silver project in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Each of these transactions also involved documenting the commodity and foreign exchange hedging arrangements to underpin those financings.
Professional background
Gemey obtained her law degree from the University of Western Australia and joined Freehills in 1987. She joined the Banking & Finance group in 1988 and has practised in the area ever since.
Gemey is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Securities Institute of Australia.
