Current practice
Rohit joined Freehills in January 2008. As a core member of the India group, Rohit is also involved in advising clients on in-bound India issues, India entry strategies, legal and regulatory framework in India and other specific India-related issues.
Experience
Prior to joining Freehills, Rohit was a senior associate with J. Sagar Associates, a prominent Indian law firm. Rohit was a part of its corporate commercial team. Rohit has close to five years of experience in mergers, acquisitions, entry strategies for foreign investments in India, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, designing investment structures, issuance of foreign currency debt offerings and initial public offerings.
Some of the projects in which Rohit has been involved include advising:
- the seller on the sale of the shares of the responsible entity for a real estate trust, and
- an Australian bank on its proposed joint venture in India.
Rohit has advised major Indian and international clients while he was working in India, including the following:
- a large Indian real estate company in one of the largest land transactions in India
- an entrepreneur in setting up a travel management company in India and entering into a joint venture agreement with airlines in India
- the underwriters in the initial public offering of Power Grid Corporation of India
- a Swedish information technology company in acquiring a significant stake in an Indian information technology company
- a multinational retail company in setting up a retail business in India
- a large French company in acquiring a stake in an Indian company engaged in chemicals business
- a leading European company in setting up a joint venture company in India for the manufacture of auto components and security products
- a multinational bank in a complex transaction related to the sale and purchase of ‘distressed assets’ in India
- a multinational company in setting up a scheduled aviation company in India
- advising an Indian company in their joint venture with a leading American flight training company, to set up flight training institutes in India, and
- an international private equity fund in their acquisition of a minority stake in a large Indian media company.
Professional background
Rohit completed his law degree at Symbiosis Law School, Pune, India, and is admitted to practice in India.
